The Integration Application Center is an industry-application-oriented R&D entity, which has newly been set up according to the comprehensive reform system of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and in the light of the specific conditions of ICT. It now has three Subcenters and a staff of 150 employees and students. The Subcenters are described as follows. Embedded Application Subcenter. This Subcenter is an embedded-application- oriented department which merges research, development, technology transform and industry popularization into an integral whole, and has a staff of about 30 employees and students. Its main research areas include the design and development of poly-chip SoC series chips, the R&D of integrated toolkits, product scheme design, training courses design for application system integration and embedded systems, etc. and its purpose is to provide development source of product technologies for embedded applications. Geographic Information Subcenter. This Subcenter is mainly engaged in the research on spatial computing technology and has a staff of about 50 employees and students. Its purpose is to integrate space technology, information technology and various application technologies, studying the spatial data in time domains and the natural and social attribute data that they carry, as well as software and hardware architectures and their implementation technologies for mass spatial information processing systems, so as to provide common-technology support for the nation’s basic facilities reconstruction and economic development. Network Storage Subcenter. This Subcenter is a department geared to the needs of the development of network storage industry, which merges research, development, and technology transform into an integral whole, and has a staff of about 70 employees and students. Based on the rich experiences it has accumulated in system design and software development, and on the abundant accumulation of technologies of ICT, this Subcenter, catering to the needs of the industry, is striving to provide the development source of product technologies for network storage systems.
