The ICT/CAS --ASTRI  Advanced Wireless Technology Joint Research Center is an academic establishment jointly founded by the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Hong Kong Academy of Applied Sciences and Technologies. Its honorary dean is Dr Yi Zhiling, deputy president of the Hong Kong Academy of Applied Sciences and Technologies and its dean is professor Meng Dan, deputy director of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The Center now has staffs of more than 50, including 15 employees, 5 guest employees, 2 postdoctoral fellows, 2 doctor candidates, 23 master candidates, and 2 guest students, as well as 5 invited professors and 2 associate professors.
Aimed at meeting the needs of our national strategy and the development of wireless industry, the Center is devoted to the research on the core key technologies of advanced wireless communication systems. Its main research areas are as follows:
The development of advanced wireless communication terminal baseband chips and core protocol stacks, including both the development of core baseband chips and the development of mobile communication protocol stack software. Aimed at TDD LTE core baseband chips, the Center is now making an effort to study high-performance baseband processing algorithms, to  design baseband processing chip architectures with high integration and high complexity, and on this basis to develop low-cost and low- energy-consumption wireless baseband chips; For the development of mobile communication protocol stack software, the Center is making an effort to develop LTE aerial interface protocol stack software, so as to promote the process of commercialization of the next-generation wireless communication equipments.
The development of terminal operating systems and service platforms: Aimed at the developing trend of LTE and future terminals, the Center is making an effort to study novel operating systems, middleware, and terminal application platforms, so as to cater for the requirements of the open mobile data service of future broadband. Aimed at the basic functions and technology characteristics of terminal operating systems, middleware, and terminal application platforms, the Center is making an effort to study corresponding technology and developing strategy, in an effort to push on mobile terminal application so as to cater for open next-generation mobile new media networks and create the benign eco-environment for mobile terminal application.
The 4G standardization task: Aimed at meeting the needs of 4G standardization and future mobile communication systems, the Center is making an effort to study key technologies so as to bring about core technologies with autonomous intellectual property rights in the aspects of novel aerial interface, enhanced MIMO, cooperative communication, etc. and to promote the standardization of related technologies.
Supporting the development of broadband wireless multimedia key technologies in broadcasting and TV service: the Center is making an effort to study service perception on telecommunication level, network manageability, dynamic adaptive broadband wireless multimedia technologies, to develop novel network systems that support broadcast and TV service, and to provide lightweight and easy-to-use service platforms for users, and to improve wireless frequency spectrum utilization and user-experiencing quality.  Its ultimate goal is to realize the rapid blending of broadcasting service and communication service, intelligent control of networks, and the high-speed transmission of data.
Currently, the Center is undertaking many research projects such as the National Broadband Wireless Special Programs, the National 863 Program, the National Science and Technology Support Programs, CNGI, Olympic Special Programs of Science and Technology, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Programs, the CAS Knowledge Innovation Programs and Enterprise Cooperation, etc. It is striving to make a contribution to the development of mobile communication industry for our country.
