- The High-Throughput Computer Research Center (HTCRC) at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICT, CAS) focuses on novel computer architecture for high-throughput data processing in the era of AI and the Internet of Everything (IoE). It researches high-throughput manycore processor architectures, high-throughput interconnect technology, high-throughput computer systems and applications, parallel algorithms, and superconducting computer architecture.
- With more than 100 staff members, including eight professors, twelve associate professors, and more than 50 graduate students, HTCRC is enabled to undertake several national projects under China’s 973 and 863 plan projects, the National Key Research and Development Plan Project, and the CAS Strategic Priority Research Program. HTCRC’s dedication to cutting-edge R&D has a strong track record in accomplishment in high-throughput processors, high throughput interconnect technology, superconducting computers, and relevant algorithms/applications. HTCRC continues to energetically publish papers and participate in top conferences. Center staff have published in well-known journals of computer architecture and systems, including MICRO and HPCA. Currently, several prospective research results have exerted extensive influence and obtained practical applications at home and abroad.
- General Objectives
- 1.Facilitate development of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Everything and build computing infrastructures for high-throughput computing.
- 2.Sustain the next generation of high-throughput computing and develop novel computing technologies for high-throughput processors.
- 3.Speed the establishment and development of an industrial high-throughput computing system and give impetus to industry through advances in high-throughput computing.
- Main Research Strategy
- 1.High-Throughput manycore processor architectures
- This research focuses on novel computer architecture for emerging data processing applications including those for media data, signal data, and graph data, among others. HTCRC successfully designed and taped-out several processors, including chip DPU-m for media data processing, chip DPU-s for signal data processing, and chip DPU-g for graph data processing.
- 2.High-Throughput computer systems
- This research focuses on building a full-stack high-throughput computer system using the silicon chip developed with the high-throughput manycore processor architectures. HTCRC has built a High-Throughput Audio and Video Processing System that can concurrently encode and decode a thousand channels of video. HTCRC also has successfully designed and taped-out chip SmartLight used in high-speed optical interconnection, to build large-scale high-throughput computer systems.
- 3.High-throughput applications and parallel algorithms
- This research area focuses on efficiently exploiting the parallelism of high-throughput algorithms and offloading workloads into high-throughput computer centers. A goal is to shorten execution time and improve efficiency while delivering high-quality services to the user. HTCRC successfully developed software framework DRONE for graph computing.
- 4.Superconducting computer architectures
- This research targets superconducting computer architectures, aiming to develop next-generation technology for high-throughput systems. HTCRC has successfully designed and taped-out several superconducting processors.
